Christchurch United Anniversary Celebrated in Style

Christchurch United Football Club wants to invite all current and previous members to join us in celebrating the club’s 50th Anniversary during a gala celebration on October 10.
Christchurch United was created by four clubs joining forces, Christchurch City, Christchurch Technical, Rangers and Shamrock to create a team that could compete in the first National League in 1970.
The original celebrations in April had to be postponed due to Covid 19, but if pandemic restrictions play ball, the club has planned a number of events for October 9-11, to commemorate the incredible achievements across five decades and we hope everyone who played a role in this history, to join us in the celebrations.
Thousands of players, administrators, coaches, parents, supporters, and many others have shared their passion for Christchurch United, and the club wants to create opportunities for them to reconnect with each other and the club.

On Friday 9 October (from 6pm) there is an opportunity to connect over a casual drink at O’Sheas Public House hosted by former All Whites goalkeeper Alan Stroud.

On Saturday 10 October you are invited to a gala celebration at the Christchurch Football Centre, where you can enjoy a superb catering and drinks while mingling with some of the greatest players, coaches and administrators in New Zealand football history.
The gala celebration will be the official launch of the 400-page anniversary publication 50 Years United (1970-2020) – Raising The Bar For New Zealand Football by football writer Coen Lammers. During the evening Coen will invite several of the former legends come on stage to share some of their stories. The book will be available to purchase on the night.
Doors will open at 6pm following Christchurch United’s final Mainland Premier League match of the season against Ferrymead Bays which kicks off at 4pm.

On Sunday 11 October the Junior and Academy teams of Christchurch United will have their annual prizegiving event and all members, families and supporters are welcome. We will invite our greats from the past to join us at the Football Centre, which will be a great opportunity to get the anniversary book signed by those who created our history. The club is organising team activities from 9am with the formal prizegiving starting at 10am.

Please make sure you extend this invitation to all your friends in the wider football people in Christchurch, as this gathering will be a unique opportunity to rub shoulders with some of New Zealand’s football royalty.

This weekend will be the highlight of Christchurch United’s 50th Anniversary year, so make sure you lock these dates in your calendar and register your contact details ASAP so we can keep you up to date on all activities that will be organised for the weekend. Registrations are essential in order to plan events and to let you know who will be attending.
