Christchurch United falls short at final English Cup hurdle

Christchurch United ran out as runners up in the English Cup after a gutsy cup run and dogged performance in the final.
The boys were outclassed by their outstanding opponents Cashmere Technical in the first half of the final on Saturday, which was played in front of a packed English Park.
Technical came out firing and scored two early goals in quick succession, which ultimately proved to be the difference despite a late rally from the boys in blue.

The rams played with a new found confidence in the second half and created a couple of dangerous chances but it wasn’t meant to be, the score ending 2-0.
A special mention to veteran United striker Michael White who was a handful as always and went painfully close in the final minutes, only to be foiled by a spectacular save from Tech goalkeeper Danny Knight.

Despite the loss, we are extremely proud of our first team for the effort and results throughout their English Cup run. It’s been a tough season, but it is a credit to the side that we fought so hard to the end in the final whilst being considered heavy underdogs.

Congratulations to Cashmere Technical on an outstanding season and a thoroughly deserved cup win
