Christchurch United struck late on against Cashmere Technical to win back the Steve Sumner Shield on Friday night.
United were strong in the early moments but struggled to capitalise on their domination of the ball. However, a loose pass from the Tech keeper was pounced upon by Joel Stevens, who put it away calmly to give the home side the lead.
After some changes at half time, Tech switched the momentum. After creating a few chances that forced United keeper Ben Graney into stopping, Tech continued to sustained pressure. They finally got their reward after a corner flown into the near post was headed home precisely.
After all their hard work, Cash Tech were the architects of their own downfall yet again. After some risky passing around the back, Waisea Henry, fresh off the bench, won the ball off of the Tech defender and rifled it in at the near post to score what was the winning goal!
