Christchurch United hosted partner club Wynnum Wolves for two friendly matches last week as both first teams continue their pre-season.
The CUFC First Team only began training at the beginning of last week, with many of the usual squad still to return in the coming weeks. Christchurch United fielded a team including some of last years first team, as well as many academy players and some triallists.
"I think it’s a great initiative from both clubs, especially for our younger lads to play against a team of this level," said Albert Riera.
"We are in a different stage of pre-season, but it’s great for us to get some minutes under the belt."
Wynnum Wolves are at the end of their pre-season, as their 2026 season begins with a cup game tomorrow evening. Coach Graham Harvey had a strong squad out in New Zealand ahead of a big year for the club.
"We’ve loved it. Everyone here has been so welcoming. Having a connection here in NZ strengthens pathways for players with aspirations going both ways. We’re looking forward to hosting United in future years."
