Christchurch United Claim First National League Point In 1-1 Draw Against Napier City Rovers

Club
Christchurch United claimed their first National League point on Saturday as they played out an entertaining and action-packed 1-1 draw against Napier City Rovers in their lunchtime kick-off.

The game started off a bit cagey with neither team looking to take any risks and the first half ended 0-0.

But in the second half the teams came out of the blocks flying with chances at either end before Jordan Spain scored for Christchurch United to put us 1-0 ahead. Minutes later Napier City Rovers equalised after a shot deflected off Christchurch United Defender Benji Laspslie and last Scott Morris in the Christchurch United goal.

With the game at 1-1 both teams looked to win the game with continuous chances at either end, but in the 67th minute Jordan Spain went down in the box after a foul from the Napier City Rovers defender and the referee pointed straight to the penalty spot. Eddie Wilkinson stepped up to the spot but failed to convert the penalty after a great save from the Napier City Rovers goalkeeper.

An action-packed game with chances at either end that could've easily gone both ways and finished 1-1 with each team settling for a point a piece. An entertaining game for the fans to enjoy in our first National League Home Game in 30 years!

We now look forward to our next game in Round 3 of the National League season next
Saturday at 4pm against Auckland United FC away from home.
