Christchurch United anniversery to be celebrated in style

Christchurch United Football Club invites all current and previous members to join us in celebrating the club’s 50th anniversary in April.

Christchurch United created by four clubs joining forces, Christchurch City, Christchurch Technical, Rangers and Shamrock to create a team that could compete in the first National League in 1970.

This ANZAC weekend, from April 24-27, the club will organise a number of events to commemorate the incredible achievements across five decades and we hope everyone who played a role in this history, to join us in the celebrations. Thousands of players, administrators, coaches, parents, supporters and many others have shared their passion for Christchurch United, and the club wants to create opportunities for them to reconnect with each other and the club. Players and supporters will be able to share their greatest stories and for those who may have lost touch, they can find out what the club has been up to in recent times.
On Friday 24 April there is an opportunity to connect over casual drinks at O’Sheas Public House hosted by former All Whites goalkeeper Alan Stroud.
On Saturday 25 April Christchurch United’s current elite team is playing Nomads in their return to the Mainland Premier League.

After match: This gala event will be held in a special marquee at CUFC’s new Yaldhurst grounds. All current, former players, families and supporters are invited to a night of banter, music and fun, where you can enjoy some food and drinks, renew friendships and share interviews with some of the greatest players, coaches and administrators in our history. It will be a vintage night celebrating the highlights of our last 50 years!
On Sunday 26 April we have made arrangements with bottle Lake Golf Course to have tee times available at 10am for any groups wishing to play golf with a special green fee rate of $20.

Movie Premier: As part of the 50th anniversary, film maker Tony Simpson and football writer Coen Lammers have been working on a historical documentary, which will have its first showing on the Sunday, April 26, at the Reading theatre in the Palms.

Tickets to this premiere will be a gold coin donation. With a restricted amount of seating we ask you to register for the showing.

After the documentary, you are invited to make your way down Marshlands Road to O’Sheas Public House to meet some of the legends who featured in the documentary.
On Monday 27 April Christchurch United is set to play another MPL or Chatham Cup match on the Monday, so everyone is invited to come along to support the team and finish the conversations with those you may have failed to catch up with. Details of this game have yet to be confirmed.
Please make sure you extend this invitation to all your friends in the wider football people in Christchurch, as this gathering will be a unique opportunity to rub shoulders with some of New Zealand’s football royalty.
This weekend will be the highlight of Christchurch United’s 50th anniversary year, so make sure you lock these dates in your calendar and register your contact details ASAP so we can keep you up to date on all activities that will be organised for the weekend. Registrations are essential in order to plan events and to let you know who will be attending.
