Christchurch United put on a commanding display as they beat Parklands 9-0 in the Chatham Cup Round one clash at United Sports Centre on May 12th, 2023. The home team were in scintillating form, with multiple players getting on the scoresheet.
The game got off to a flying start for Christchurch United as they took the lead in the 16th minute through a goal from Maclennan. The forward showed great composure to slot the ball past the Parklands goalkeeper and give his team the advantage.
Just 9 minutes later, the home team were awarded a penalty after a Parklands defender was adjudged to have fouled the ball inside the box. Stokes stepped up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake as he calmly sent the ball into the left side to double Christchurch United's lead.
Stokes was not done yet, as he scored his second goal of the game in the 34th minute. The midfielder found space outside the box and produced a clinical finish to make it 3-0.
The second half saw Christchurch United continue to dominate proceedings, with Debenham getting on the scoresheet in the 55th minute to make it 4-0. The visitors' misery was compounded just a minute later when a Parklands defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Cole got in on the act in the 65th minute, latching onto a pass and firing a low shot into the net to make it 6-0. Meyn then got a goal of his own in the 80th minute (after scoring last week aswell), finishing off a slick passing move to extend the lead even further.
Philip completed the rout for Christchurch United with two late goals, capping off an impressive performance from the home team.
In the end, it was a one-sided affair as Christchurch United ran out comfortable 9-0 winners over Parklands. The home team showed their quality throughout the game and will be hoping to carry this form into the next round of the Chatham Cup.
