As part of Christchurch United Football Clubs OneClubOneDream moto we are very excited to see our players come through the our academy system.
Last night in the senior mens National League 4-1 win against Cashmere Technical, 16 year old Nicholas Murphy made his National League debut coming on at 66 minutes. Holding firm with waves of strong Cashmere attacks as our right Full Back. Nicholas who joined us in 2015, has played in every Christchurch United age group from U10s.
We spoke to Nicholas straight after the final whistle
How are you feeling right now? "It’s been my ambition to play first team for many years now and to get my national league debut, at home infront of friends and family was pretty cool"
What advice have you got for younger acsemdy players? "My advice is that you have to consistently be good to be great, keep training hard day by day and eventually it will be rewarded"
What's your next steps? "Hoping to play for New Zealand Under17 's team and push for more minutes in first team next season"
Nicholas is the 9th Christchurch United Academy player to grab a senior mens first team debut since 2019, Daniel Meyn and Jackson Cole debuted against Auckland City FC a few weeks ago in the National League. Frewen Watts, Diego Lavin, Jago Godden and Noa Prestel debuted in the Southern League earlier in the year. Zach Bennett and Oscar Obel-Hall debuted in the last few years.
