It is with great sadness to inform that Tariq Omar was among those of whom were taken from us by the devastating mosque attack.
Tariq was a much loved coach of multiple Christchurch United junior teams and Academy Director Colin Williamson described him as “a beautiful human being with a tremendous heart and love for coaching”.
Last year, the 24-year-old coached the Christchurch Under-15 team at Spreydon Domain and during the 2018 season also started helping junior teams at the Christchurch Football Centre to continue his development as a football coach.
“Tariq was loved by the players of the Under 9 team he was coaching for his big heart and passion for the game,” said Williamson.
Tariq was also a keen player during the Summer and according to Williamson was a valued member of a social team of CUFC coaches who played in the social 7-a-side competition at CFC.
“Our coaches and his players are struggling to understand what has happened and we are trying to support our club members as best as we can,” said Williamson.
“But of course our main thoughts and concerns go out to Tariq’s family who are in our hearts and prayers.”
You will always be with us Tariq 💙
