Matt Carruthers, Christchurch United’s Sporting Director and responsible for next season’s U17 Academy team, has announced that he is looking to strengthen and add depth to the current squad.
“The U17 age group is a vital stage for young and ambitious footballers. Many of these players have the desire to push into First Team football however for physical, tactical, or technical factors they may not be ready to depart the Academy landscape. This is a key reason why the football club is offering these players another year of high-quality Academy content through 4 contacts every week which include TOVO methodology, competitive matches, several tournaments/exchanges, and detailed video analysis sessions.” Matt explained.
“As we experienced this year, Danny Halligan (First Team Head Coach) showed clear intent of bringing U17 players into the First Team space through the likes of Academy graduates Oscar Obel-Hall and Jordan Neal – this proved to be incredibly successful. Being responsible for next year’s U17 age group is an ideal opportunity for players due to my link between our Academy and First Team.”
“To show Christchurch United’s support of these U17 players on their journey towards First Team football, we are providing the entire year’s Academy program for $1000 which sees the club generously cover the other 50%. If any players are interested in joining our U17 Academy program for 2020, we are currently offering 2 weeks of free trainings in Term 4 and players are welcome to come and join the sessions.”
