Christchurch United with a convincing win against Burwood

Christchurch United is back on winning terms after winning the second game in a row yesterday, against bottom of the table side Burwood. The game was played at the Christchurch Football Centre on a perfect pitch, which contributed to the tempo of the game.

The first half saw Christchurch United having the ball and dominating the game, creating a few small oppurtunities to open the score. The score was opened 20 minutes into the game, after Jack Ferris tapped in a low free-kick from Colin van Gool, when he was left completely free inside the box.

Juan Chang, who started up top yesterday, was a constant threat with his pace, but couldn’t find the net in the first half. His biggest opportunitie went just over the crossbar, after he tried to chip the ball over the outcoming Burwood-goalkeeper. Although Christchurch United had a few more opportunities to double the score, the teams went into the half-time break with only one goal scored.

Burwood started the second half off a bit more agressive, putting more pressure on the Christchurch United defense, which resulted in some danger in front of Christchurch United goalkeeper Lew Gordon. After not converting one of the dangerous moments into a goal, the boys in blue and white managed to play a way through the pressure, resulting in a second goal. Juan Chang brought the ball high into the box, where Jack Ferris was left free once again, heading the ball into the back of the net.

Juan Chang added a third one for Christchurch United, which completely decided the game, but the last goal of the game was scored by Henry Finnis. After a great dribble inside the box, he cutted the ball across his opponent, finding the far bottom corner, putting the final score on the scoreboard.

The win sees Christchurch United being still in second position, ten points behind leaders Selwyn United. Coming Tuesday, at Forster Park, the two top of the table sides will clash at 7.30pm. On Saturday, Christchurch United plays against Waimak United, away at Kendall Park. Kick-off for that game is 2.30pm.
