Christchurch United FC Academy Director Colin Williamson is flying to Sydney in December, to discuss a potential alignment between the two clubs. Colin Williamson: “We want to create pathways for children in the future, to play at their highest level possible. At our club we have got some great talents that potentially could play professionally. Our role is to show these boys and girls which pathway could work for them.” This year, two young Christchurch United players have had an internship with Sydney FC. Hamish Cooper and Riley Caswell trained in Sydney with Sydney FC and they might be invited for another trial period. This shows that Christchurch United’s Academy program is starting to pay off and proves that Christchurch United is the place to be for youth football players.
Our goal of the alignment is not only to create the pathway for youth football players, but also to arrange exchange moments to play friendly games and tournaments that are a challenge and an add on to the environment that already exists.
